Background on Reflexology

The International Institute of Reflexology (IIR) was founded by Eunice Ingham and is the only school to be licensed to teach the Original Ingham Method® of Reflexology. In the UK, students have to achieve exceptionally high pass rates in their theory and practical exams, attain an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology and complete over 100 hours of practical case studies. This is the school I trained with.

The Association of Reflexologists (AOR) was founded in 1984. It arose from a need to establish standards and to provide a network of qualified practitioners to which the public could refer to with confidence. The aims of the Association are to help maintain a high standard of practice and patient care and to promote reflexology. Members are bound by the Association's Code of Practice and Ethics.

The Complementary and National Healthcare Council (CNHC) is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners. It's key function is to enhance public protection by setting standards for registration with CNHC. The CNHC ‘quality mark' is being recognised as the hallmark of quality for the sector. This means that the general public, and those who commission the services of complementary healthcare practitioners, will be able to choose with confidence by looking for the CNHC quality mark.
